Have you seen the Ted Talk by Simon Sinek called How Great Leaders Inspire Action? If you have not, I highly recommend it.
Those who start with why inspire people. Simon Sinek’s example uses Apple.
He explains, if Apple communicated like most companies, their marketing message would sounds something like this:
“We have great computers. They’re beautifully designed, simple to use, and user friendly. Want to buy one?”
And here’s how Apple actually communicates, using why first:
“In everything we do, we believe in challenging the status quo. We believe in thinking differently. The way we challenge the status quo is by making our products beautifully designed, simple to use and user friendly. We just happen to make great computers.”
Which version of Apple would you buy from?
I was inspired by this video and it defined the why we’ve been following all along.

The foundational purpose, cause or belief (our why?) in which Valicom was started was based on the customer confusion in the marketplace and the difficulty experienced by alternative telecom providers to fairly compete. The same inequality still exists today. Nancy began her career in telecommunications in 1983 as an account executive with Republic Telecom, a regional long distance carrier. She was named district sales manager for the Wisconsin region in 1987 when Republic Telecom was acquired by Mid American Communications.
